1. How do I register for a program?

Registration is accepted by mail or in-person with a completed registration form & payment, and online via our registration website at www.coventryct.org/recreation with credit card.

We accept cash, checks (made payable to "Town of Coventry"), debit and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). There is a 3% service charge for credit card use.

2. How do I reserve a facility?

Many of our facilities are available for private rental. All facility reservations require a facility use permit. Reservations are accepted via mail or in-person with a completed Facility Reservation Application & payment. 4. Can I make a payment over the phone?

Due to limited phone lines and staff time, we cannot accept registrations or reservations by phone, but we do accept payment by phone once you have already completed a registration or reservation.

5. Do my taxes support recreation programs?

Programs are 100% self-supported by fees and charges. Almost all of our staff are contracted instructors that are seasonal, and/or part-time. They are paid for by the registration fees that participants pay. The majority of our tax-based annual operating budget is for utilities and maintenance of the park buildings, to keep them clean & safe for our citizens. The portion of our tax-based annual operating budget is less than .01% of the total. It covers administrative staff and a portion of the lifeguard payroll.

6. When do program brochures come out?

The seasonal program brochure is delivered by postal service to Coventry residents. It is printed three (3) times per year: April (summer brochure), September (fall brochure) and January (spring/winter brochure).

The Parks & Recreation Department has two additional brochures disseminated through Coventry schools and online: 1. Summer Day Camp brochures are available mid-February with registration beginning in March; and 2. the “Recreation Daze” Before & After School program brochure, available in June for the following school year.

7. When are summer job applications available?

The Department regularly employs Camp Counselors, Program Coordinators, Directors, Lifeguards, Gatekeepers, Park Maintainers & Boat Rental Attendants during the summer months.

In the winter there are openings for Basketball gym supervisors, referees, and timeclock/scoreboard attendants.

Applications for all summer positions are always available on the last Thursday in January, and applications are always due the first week in April. Interviews follow during the second or third week in April, with decisions being made the first week in May.

8. How do I rent a canoe/kayak/paddleboard?

Boat rentals are first come first served at Patriots Park Boat House during our summer season from 3-7 pm weekdays and on weekends from 12-7. During the off season & weather permitting, you can reserve them in advance at the Parks & Rec office. You may also sign-out a Canoe or Kayak Instruction Booklet with a video DVD found at the Booth & Dimock Library.

9. Where can I walk my dog?

Creaser Park, Mill Brook Park, Miller Richardson Park and Laidlaw Park all allow dogs. We ask that you keep dogs off ballfields and away from spectators. Dogs are prohibited at Patriots Park and Lisicke Beach. Dogs must be on a leash and cleaned up after.

10. Where can I obtain a State Parks pass?

11. Where do I get a Fishing License?

Fishing Licenses are available for purchase through the Town Clerk's Office, located on the second floor (upstairs) of Town Hall, 742-7966.

12. Who runs the Boat Launch?

13. I've reserved the Lodge for a party: Do my guests have to pay for parking?

During the summer season while beaches are open, those who rent a facility must provide a Guest List no later than Thursday before the weekend rental date. Guests who are listed on this list will not have to pay the parking fee. Any name that is not listed will have to pay the gate fee.

14. Will someone be available to unlock the Lodge for my rental? Are grills allowed?

There is a key box with a combination lock by the door. You will receive the combination a week before your rental with further instructions. No grills permitted in building(s) or on decks. The grill at the Lodge at Patriots Park is for senior use only.

15. When do I get my Security Deposit back after my rental?

Deposit refunds are processed automatically the following Monday, pending staff inspection of the facility. If paid by check or cash, a refund check will be mailed out within 2-4 weeks. If paid by credit card (less than 3 months before the rental date), your deposit will go back to the card 3-5 days after rental date. Deposit may be forfeited and not returned if damage is done to facility, or if rules are broken.

16. Is there a fee to walk-on to a Town park?

There is no fee to walk onto any parks. There is a fee to park your car in the parking lot at Lisicke and Patriots Park during summer months only.

17. Where does the Resident Beach Sticker allow me access to?

The Beach Sticker grants parking access to both Patriots Park and Lisicke Beach.

18. Can I bring a grill to the beach?

No grills, no alcohol, no pets on the beach. You can bring your own grill to use within the park, but not on the beach. Please dispose of hot coals carefully. There is a container near the Picnic Pavilion for this purpose.

19. Can non-residents go to both beaches? What are the fees?

Non-residents may go to Patriots Park Beach only, as Lisicke Beach is resident parking only. (Non-residents are welcome at Lisicke Beach if they accompany a resident in their vehicle). Non-residents may purchase a day pass at the gate at Patriots Park; Weekday fee (Mon-Fri): $15 per car; Weekend/holiday fee: $25 per car. Prices are subject to change per year. Parking is on a first come, first serve basis.

20. Where does the Resident Beach Sticker go on my car?

The resident beach sticker adheres to the lower passenger’s side of your front windshield.

21. What is the bottom of the lake composed of?

Sand and rocks.
